As I thought about the line “come long expected Jesus” I remembered the reason He is long expected is because He told us to expect Him. He tells us in Luke 12 to “keep our lamps burning, for we do not know the hour of His return.”

So, I selected a few types of lamps from the last 2000 years to show the evolution of our expectation. Oil, kerosene, candles, flashlights, lightbulbs, and smartphones have been burning in wait for the King’s return.
